Been rereading the Tortall books after the new short story collection came out. I still think a Tortall adventure game would be excellent. Shit, can you imagine playing a game as Alanna, doing magic and fighting immortals and bandits and collecting mystical crysticals? I mean, it's like a perfect gaming world with an actually strong female protagonist,* just waiting to be coded. God damn, I would play that fucker till my thumbs fell off. Hell, I would buy and learn how to drive a Non!tendo console just to play it.**

I say we start a campaign. Anybody with me?

*As opposed to the kind of "strong female protagonist" that appears to be a babe with huge boobs and a sword/gun. For some reason game designers seem to prefer that one.

**I have never been good at consoles that aren’t Nintendo. Brand loyalty, I haz it.

I like this plan, but am a little worried that the eventual result would be an Alanna with huge boobs and a giant, extra-phallic sword.

Yeah, we would have to avoid that. Also, if she wears chainmail, it will not be of the lingerie variety.

I am SO THERE. I don't even play video games, but if it was Tortall-themed? Yes, yes I would.

This idea FTW! I don't play video games normally (and consequently suck at using all manner of controllers) but I would totally go virtual-adventuring in Tortall. As long as Alanna's boobs were strapped down and her sword was nice and sharp.

(And maybe she could hook up with Thayet at some point? Pleeeease?)

I read the Alanna ones not all that long ago, and they're cute popcorn, but one suspects a video game with her in it would need a lot of the crying edited out if it included stuff from the last book.

(If it's just play-in-the-universe type of stuff, rather than follow-book-plot, then carry on.)

Hah! No, I was thinking play-in-the-universe, not so much those books specifically. I'd want to see a new adventure with her later--probably after the Immortals showed up. They'd be fun to beat up.

Oh, think of the different classes you could have! Warrior class and mage class and awesome-battle-commander class. And the spies! And the Court of the Rogue! Oh, I want to play this game now. Someone needs to make this happen.

I'd love to see it done WELL, and that would be tough. REALLY tough. To get a really gorgeous immersive game, it helps to have the backing of a big company, but to really give it the kind of feel that Pierce fans would like, I think you'd have to have a group of independents working on it. It would definitely need to be a labor of love, preferably with someone who's a huge fan in charge.

Ain't THAT the truth. Especially since in my head it's very much like a Zelda game, so in a perfect world Nintendo would develop it with heavy advice from Pierce herself. I can dream!
