… And the pendulum swings back to the volcano-from-a-molehill: I am on the verge of tears.

I really, really wanted a Kindle 2 for my birthday.

God dammit, this fucking BETTER be a "glitch." I’m retreating into my happy giant post of links to sulk and pout. Right after I fire off a certain letter.

ETA: All right, so. As of tonight, I am willing to forgive Amazon for the most part. I suspect this "glitch" may have taken the form of "a few dumbfucks in the company with what we will generously call ideals" (in which case there may be some firings), or it might be a little more innocent, or perhaps they are that reprehensible but Awesome Power Of The Internet Compels Them. I don't know. But I do feel I must point something out: they say they're FIXING it.

Given my experience that businesses who get called on unacceptable policies tend to flip off the callers and say "We didn't want you here anyway," admitting that it's probably a bad idea and fixing it is a vast improvement.

And I still hold with the theory of positive reinforcement. If they stick to their word, they get another letter--telling them that reversing the policy was a GOOD CHOICE.

And, no matter what caused it in the first place, perhaps they will keep a closer eye on themselves now that they know that the internet is watching you, Amazon ... ALWAYS WATCHING.

I also hear Barnes & Noble is looking into making Kindle rivals. Something to think about, Amazon.

My money's on this being some kind of trolling or a fundie "astroturfing" group abusing the fact that Amazon uses an automated system for removing Objectionable Content.

I can't believe the "glitch" theory, but I don't see Amazon being this particular variety of assholes, either.
