Community College Scam #1 is go!

 

I have been accepted for fall term at SLCC.

 

As a non-resident.

 

Apparently, having lived at the same Utah address for lo these 19 years, and another address in Utah for one year before that, does not count me as a Utah resident, because for a while I had this tendency to go off to college in Oregon or sometimes Africa.  I gotta admit, it’s a clever little scam they’ve got going—while filling out the application I knew they were setting it up to make it sound like I wasn’t a resident, but I couldn’t fill it out any other way. And now I’ve got to do the Red Tape thing.

 

I guess the good news is I’m such a damn resident that I’ll positively steamroll any attempts to make me look like I live somewhere else, but still—screw you, SLCC. Screw you and your petty attempts at getting my money.

Totally not surprised, the NY tuition thing had me fill out this long form of everywhere I've lived, held a job, gone to school, filed any taxes, had a driver's license, and where I've been claimed as a dependent in the last few years. (Got dinged on that last one! arg!)

Ugh... Been there, done that. I can't count the number of times I was billed as an international student (which is about four times more than a resident would pay), when I was supposed to be exempt. Good luck, and don't give up!
