Vidole Vya Miguu Vya Rangi 

Heather, Mom, 妹, and I went and got pedicures (this is becoming a tradition, I guess) at a school for such things, and I think we entertained the ladies while it was going on.  We carried on about Africa, Heather’s impending mission, the students’ reasons for going to this school, the stuff they learn in their classes, my purple feet,* Dad, and how Mom is a unicorn in disguise.** We even convinced Heather to get a color for hers—a nice mother-of-pearl.

 

Believe it or not, it’s unusual to ask for rainbow toes.  But I was adamant about appeasing my inner seven-year-old. I love this color scheme—it’s weird and makes me think of the retro future, for some reason, with green space girls and clothes with rings.  I will have the coolest feet in Kenya.

 

And since Liz, who knows me too well, guessed her present from the hint I gave her, now you can all see what it is.  Unless you’re Emily, and then you will just have to live in suspense.

 

Hank does a Vanna White impression to display what Liz has gotten.

We saw some clips of the Fleischer cartoons somewhere along the way, and finally realized how god damn GORGEOUS the animation was.  It was smooth, and had shadows and shading and depth, and the colors were amazing.  None of that Hanna-Barbera junk. Rotoscoping rules.

 

Liz wants to have an after-Christmas party. We’ll see if I can wait that long to get it to her.

 

*I think it has to do with how I sit on chairs, which cuts off my circulation halfway up my thigh, and my legs are so short that they swing over the edge anyway.

You see, Mom's got a lipoma (small bump of tissue) on her forehead, right in the middle. When my sister was small, Mom told her that it was because she was a unicorn who had the power to turn into a human--but that there was always that little telltale bump where her horn would be. She spent years going back and forth, but when she met Dad she stayed too long in human form and got stuck. Someday, though, she will find a way to break the spell and turn back into a unicorn, and race off into the woods to be with the other unicorns. Of course, she'll visit us whenever she can.

A bump made into a story. Good show, eh? It's all in the attitude.

BTW, according to TV Tropes, the term for "retro future" is "Zeerust".

Also, there are several collections of those Superman cartoons. The DVD I have is "The Superman Cartoons of Max & Dave Fleischer", which actually contains all of the Fleischer Studios and Famous Studios (after the Fleischers were forced out) episodes.

Love the feets! *Sigh* My toenails don't quite do "pretty", but I'm working on getting them less ugly. My feet used to be so lovely when I was a kid, before I started wearing shoes all the time and getting callouses and bunions and toenail fungi.
