So I buckled in the Bookstore yesterday while surveying their rack of Republic of Tea cans. It’s not my fault! They knew exactly where to aim to hit me full-on.

Delicious rose petals.

It was a mind-blowingly pink container, turns out to be a special Valentine’s edition tea, and it said: Rose Petal Tea.

Hot damn! Rose petals!  In teaFinally! I’ve wanted this forever. They read my mind!* Add a little milk and sugar and you have … you have … tea with rosewater! I’ll take six cans!

Ahem.  Yes.  Well. The only trouble is that it’s full-leaf, and I find myself, tragically, sans tea bomb.** So for a few days I will have to merely dream about it and hope it fulfills my expectations, until I can either buy a tea bomb or convince 妹 or Mom to send me one.

Ahh.  Roses.

*Took them long enough, the buggers.

**I consider myself a bit of a tea snob, but I can never remember what the hell you call them things that you put the loose-leaf in and then stick in your teacup. I think they’re called ‘infusers.’ However, this doesn’t matter, because 妹 invented the term ‘tea bomb,’ which more than suffices.

It's limited edition? Well, bugger. (we had it on the shelves last month, didn't occur to me). I'll have to go buy more.

One word of advice. . . don't use any more than an actual teaspoon per cup. You think, if you use more, you'll have delicious, delicious extra-rose-laden tea, but what you actually end up with is tea in an oil slick. O_o But with the correct amount of tea, it's damn near perfect.

I'm actually not sure if it's limited edition or seasonal, or what ... maybe you'll be able to get more next year.

Roses are definitely a lesson in moderation. Nobody wants to find themselves drinking Evelyn Rose Eau de Parfum. Yuck!

People have asked me what rosewater tastes like, to which I reply, "It tastes like roses." They think I've had like rose petal salad or something, but the truth is that when I was in kindergarten my friend and I were arguing about whether roses were edible, so to test the theory we ate one of her mom's roses, petal by petal.

An admirably empirical test!

If you happen to have coffee filters around, you can improvise a tea bomb. Just saying.

I've been looking for ways to improvise, but unfortunately for this case, there is no coffee maker in my house. I don't drink it, and Liz only gets it from Starbucks sometimes.

But it's a good suggestion. ;)

They have a tea pot that IS an infuser as well. It strains through the bottom straight into your waiting mug. Its beautiful.

(and they have some darn good teas too... white blueberry is deliciousness)

"Tea bomb" is a perfectly good term, and more descriptive than my usual of "tea thingy".

I bought a can of the rose petal tea a couple of years ago. So I suspect they have it every year.
