You ever go around for two full days putting up with chills, headaches, body aches, fatigue, and a slight cough and only THEN realize you might be sick?

... What? Yeah, uh, me either.

Okay, I do have an excuse--I've been sick so often this past year that I apparently assumed that I couldn't POSSIBLY be sick again. Ha ha! I was so wrong.

At least I wasn't this clueless about the cat. Fern hasn't been eating lately, and the vet diagnosed her with early kidney failure, a complication of being an old-ass cat. He graciously came in yesterday to pump some fluids into her--and to teach me how to do the same. Fern is a little put out with me at the moment, what with two vet visits and a load of needles, but she's also hanging close.

So we're feeling lousy together, and letting the bird fend for herself, with NPR for company.* The good news is that Fern's already getting sparkier after some fluids, so there's hope for this grandma cat yet.

At least we have a day off. It's been an adventurous week. When I feel less dead, I'll tell y'all about the Space Place Gala. For now, though, the cat is curled up on the bed; I think I will do likewise.

*She's going to be a very erudite bird. She didn't like Pledge Drive Week, though. She'd scream whenever they started in.

I'm happy to hear that the bird didn't like the pledge drive, because I was picturing him torturing you with "To renew now, call 1-800- blah blah"

Hope you and the old cat feel better soon.

There was a time I went to work for a week while feeling bad, then when the weekend came and I had a chance to think about it, I realized I had pneumonia and probably should have been in the hospital that entire time :D.

At work there's one cat that comes in weekly for fluids for her kidney disease. She's been doing it for probably three years now, and she's still every bit as feisty as when we started. And by feisty I mean the moment you aren't paying attention she will cut a bitch. :D
Anyway, what I'm saying is that if your kitty will tolerate it, it is possible for her to live comfortably a long time with regular fluids. If your vet goes for things like pepcid, maybe ask him for a dose to have on hand for those days your kitty's tummy is bothering her.

Ha! Yeah, I JUST realized it's walking pneumonia. D'oh!

Right now we're just trying to flush out her kidneys. Hopefully she'll start to feel better soon!

I have the same reaction to pledge drives. Hope you feel better soon!

Between year-round allergies, insomnia, and depression, I'm generally feeling at least a bit under the weather, so it often takes me quite a while to realize that I'm actually sick. Best wishes for you and Fern <3 :3

I don't blame her. I always want to scream when Pledge Week is on myself. Better than ads, but it sure is annoying for the duration.

By the way, the bracelet arrived! It fits great and looks lovely!

The hosts all sound a little like they don't like it much, either.

Yay! I am so glad you like it!
