Bah. Looks like my garden is a lost cause this year. I started it with good intentions of Three Sisters gardening, with corn, beans, squash, marigolds, nasturtiums, a border of sunflowers, and an herb corner, but then I got sidetracked by Space Placery and didn't bother to maintain it at all. Turns out you've got to pay attention to your garden if you don't want one breed of sunflower to go NUTS. It does look kinda lovely with them and the marigolds and nasturtiums, but it's not really what I was going for.

Oh, well. There's always NEXT year to try for pumpkins and corn, right?

With luck that will get lots of seed-eating birds to visit you.

Oh, definitely. And they love to hide their seeds all over our deck--seat cushions, awnings, grill storage ... ;)

My garden got neglected this year, too. I failed to thin the watermelon plants, so they all grew, overcrowded, and produced only a few softball size melons. The weather was not as hot as it usually is, so the tomatoes were late, but the plants grew so large they broke free from their cages and sprawled everywhere. Beans did well. There is always next year.

My tomatoes have failed me this year. I got them started in good time, and the summer's been super hot at times, but I still haven't gotten a single edible tomato out of it! There are a bunch of green ones on the plants, but the weather's already getting autumn-y (especially at night), so I doubt they'll ever reach edibility. Bah.

My sweet peas, morning glories, and snapdragons have all done well, though. And this is the first time I've ever had flowering hollyhocks in the garden, so YAY for that! :)

I don't know WHAT Mom did to her tomatoes this year, but we are DROWNING in them. Fertilizer, I guess.

Yay for flowers! Hollyhocks are so cool.
