I Am Bad At Social

bloodyrosemccoyThe problem with living with one's parents is that you always run the risk of feeling like The Kid when they have old friends over to visit. I just had to excuse myself from hanging out with some lovely med-school friends of Mom'n'Dad because it was that or sit there staring at my empty plate while they discussed old buddies and whatnot.
Plus, it spares everyone that awkward conversation where they make a half-assed effort to Include me and we wind up discussing What I Am Doing With My Life. Although I have to give one of them Extra Super Bonus Points for steering clear of one thing: when I brightly said I was trying to get an agent for my book BEFORE the sun expands to consume the Earth, she did NOT suggest self-publishing. Y'all don't even know what a relief it was not to have THAT conversation again.

I have enough trouble being a functioning adult in my own apartment with my own job. If I moved back in with her, it WOULD be like I was back in high school. Luckily, she lives in BFE, and the job market there would never be enough to entice me back.
