bloodyrosemccoy: (Why)

I really wish [livejournal.com profile] metaquotes hadn't descended into wanky lunacy a while ago. There needs to be an outlet for the hilarious things I find on LJ, and Metaquotes has been taken over and then gutted by whiners. Anybody know another community that's just funny?

Did I miss some interesting blowup on metaquotes? I thought it just never got any traffic anymore, and now I'm wondering if I missed some Event. (Alas, I do not know other funny communities as such, but am interested in links if other people do.)

Mostly it's defunctish now, but as for me, I stopped going thataway mostly because the funny posts gave way to flame wars and twit posts. I miss the snark. I figured that's why it dried up.

So many LJ communities I used to follow seem to have dried up. All the cool kids are on tumblr now, or something. (Which I would like to like, because I don't want to be That Annoying Luddite, but I still can't figure out how to use the thing for any sort of conversation.)

Eh, I'm fine being the Luddite. tumblr makes me feel like MySpace did, so I'll stick with the dinosaur blog site.

On the plus side, the signal to noise ratio has gotten pretty good as LJ quiets down. Less signal overall, but it's never buried.

That's true.

I'm with you. "Conversation" on tumblr seems to consist entirely of "so-and-so reblogged this".

You can reblog and add your own comment to the bottom of the post. It results in weird quotestacks and is not as smooth and easily usable as LJ-style commenting, though.

I actually found your LJ via metaquotes, so that just makes me sad. I never did hang out there much though.

I know, right? I've made a lot of friends through Metaquotes. I miss that.

It's always a little weird seeing that comm just casually mentioned by EVERYONE ON FREAKING LJ just cuz I knew the person who started it. It's like... meta.

Well, it was such a brilliant community back in the day! She deserved the recognition.

Yeah, for some reason the fun disappeared from MQ. It was always "For posting funny (and occasionally deep) things said on LiveJournal.", but now what little traffic it gets are the supposedly "deep" ones that aren't, really.

Maybe we could re-inject some humor. At the very least, the occasional bit of Ursula Vernon could breathe a little life back into it.

Metaquotes revival, everyone!

I'm not sure if it'd work, but I suppose it's worth a shot. With any luck all the wankers have moved on to tumblr themselves. They can happily abuse the word "privilege" over there until the world ends for all I care.

I'll keep an eye out for hilarious things on LJ, though. We cannot let MQ go quietly into the night!

While I see the sense in the approach, my personal response to that is going to be to just continue reading Ursula's journal itself instead.

LJ's a bloody ghost town! Only dinosaurs like you and I left (at least we're not a pack of loose dinosaurs). I read it for literally five people including yourself and Ursula now.
