Happy 30th, Mom'n'Dad! Not bad for a couple who got married on their lunch break.

I promise we'll send you to France or something one of these years. But for now, at least weknow how to party at home.

They'd been together for some time, but Dad was going through a grueling residency and was barely ever home. Mom decided she'd had enough and called him one day to say that by god they WOULD get married soon or she'd know why. So he said "Meet me at the courthouse at lunchtime and bring me a change of clothes." Which is just what she did. They got married before a judge, then he went back to work and she went grocery shopping.

Mom gets a little wistful about having wanted a real wedding sometimes, but this story is so much more in keeping with the way my parents do things that I much prefer it that way.

Follow-up stories: My mom gave us $1500 for a wedding present, to put towards a party, a wedding, or whatever. We put a down payment on a badly needed car...

Our 30th anniversary was celebrated by drinking French champagne while weeding the "vineyard," (42 grape vines in the back yard).

And, Ecaterin, were you conceived in the ticket queue at Fenchurch Street Station???!!!

*grin* it's a reference to the Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy. A woman named Fenchurch explains that she is so named because she was conceived at Fenchurch Station, adding that "apparently there wasn't a lot to do while waiting in the ticket queue."
