So a couple months ago in the library I came across A Princess of Mars and was delighted. “Awesome!” thought I. “Old-timey sci-fi I have not yet read!” So I checked it out and, because this is how I roll, put it on the to-read pile at the end of my bed and promised myself I’d get to it eventually.

Except I forgot the John Carter movie came out, and now the dratted thing is on hold for, like, seven people. I don’t have to pay fines since I work at the Liberry, but my Code of Honor requires me to turn stuff in when it’s on hold. I’ve got a week before it’s officially due. I … guess I’d better read it soon, then!

I finally got around to watching Tucker & Dale vs. Evil, and it is pretty much my new favorite movie. I never even knew this could happen, but it’s certainly the most adorable Splattery Dead Teenager Movie I have ever seen. It’s really hard to do a successful horror/comedy, but damn, these guys nailed it.

Good news, everyone! The Legend of Korra, the follow-up to Avatar: The Last Airbender, is premiering in April!

Here’s hoping it will be as awesome as its predecessor.

Heard a couple of kids in the library yesterday arguing about how to spell “LOL.” I’m not sure what this says about the way it’s entered the lexicon, but I am amused.

Raked the garden and dug out a bit more of that spot I want to turn into moar garden. Dang, I ain’t used to gripping a shovel anymore. I have the feeling my hands will be raptor claws tonight.

Oh, and in case you were wondering: it was, naturally, Batman who saved the day when he steered his noble mount into a meat truck and distracted the T-rex and the pteranodon with food. BECAUSE HE'S THE GODDAMN BATMAN.

I thought Kyle had quite the devoted fanbase? (I mean, he's a major star now with the whole New52 Green Lantern: New Guardians...) He's adorable and geeky and artsy and stuff. Jon is just my bias... (and easily better than Mr Overrated Hal Jordon, but that's not hard)

Good to hear! I'm not really involved with the Fandom, and I only even read GL every couple of years or so when a major arc wraps up and my friend loans me the whole lot in one go. Haven't read any since Darkest Night.

But I've run across a lot of hating on Kyle in various places, so I wonder sometimes. Jon is pretty cool too, from what little I've seen of him.

If you're a Kyle fan and want to see more of him, New Guardians might be worth picking up, especially if you've read Darkest Night (since all the "rainbow lantern" stuff is important). But Kyle seems to, in general, suffer from being given weaker plot lines, and sadly, this is no exception to that. Sometimes in comics I think certain characters don't get loved the way they should by their writers, and that then reflects in the readership and fandom as well. I can't think of any plot that's particularly given Kyle a chance to really shine...

Jon often gets his stage in various versions of Justice League, as opposed to in Green Lantern series. For some of us that's okay, but I agree, it sometimes makes it hard to feel like you get to see much of him. Jon is very much a stable rock-like character, generally balancing out Guy. My husband really likes Guy as a character, so it wasn't hard for me to form an attachment to Jon.

I'm going down to visit L next weekend. I'll ask if he's got a chunk of New Guardians for me.

And yeah, I hear you about characters not getting the arcs that really let them shine. That right there is pretty much why I couldn't get into Angel nearly as much as Buffy.

There should be six (maybe seven, depending on which week of the month it's released in) issues of New Guardians if your person is getting the monthlies. But I know there are a lot of collectors who wait for the trades before purchasing (I'm guilty of this with the few Marvel titles I care about). Even if your friend doesn't have any for your right now, it can be good to file away for the future. In any case, I hope you find something that rocks your Kyle-love world. :D
