bloodyrosemccoy: Beast from X-Men at the computer, grinning wickedly (Beastly)

Just changed my comment pages to look like the rest of my journal. Grudgingly. I like the stark default LJ comment pages, but it's gotten too obnoxious to try to pick icons with that new interface that does not match the Icon Map I have in my head. MY LIFE IS SO INCONVENIENT. Let's see if this change helps.

I hate the new icon picker with a hatred that burns with the heat of a thousand suns. I know the names of my icons, and I can zoom right to the one I want.

I might not even care, if I could rearrange the goddamn things to suit myself.

The recent changes to LiveJournal are a clusterfuck of epic proportion. The icon picker just straight up doesn't work for a lot of people, and removing comment subjects has infuriated nearly every fandom community on the site. Lots of people have jumped ship for Dreamwidth. I got a DW account and imported my journal, but I'm really hoping LJ unfucks itself, because I've got a permaccount and I'd have to pay $50/year to keep all of my icons over there.

I have a sort of mixed reaction when sites change things, usually both "You BASTARDS!" and "Hey, maybe they fixed the things that were annoying in the past." I also try to retain a healthy skepticism for my own dislike of change just because.

But it's really a control issue. For all it's public, LJ is very personal, even its social aspects, and any sudden change to that is a removal of control. That's ... obnoxious.

But at this point it would take a great deal more fuckery to get me to jump ship. For all the stupid changes, I really LIKE it here.

On the plus side, clicking on the "Expand" link and being faced with the infinite spinny circle seems to have been fixed.

On the minus, that's because they seem to have taken out subthread expansion in place entirely and it instead "Expand" loads a new page. At least in some layouts. So it's traded one sort of annoying clunkiness for another.
