MY SISTER: I love this tree! We should get this one!

ME: Ooh, you’re right, it’s fluffy! Let’s definitely get this one!

DAD: Yeah, it’s nice and straight, all right.

MOM: Well, what about this one?

US: But—

MOM: Or this other one?

ME: No, I like this tree!

MY SISTER: We’ve already bonded!

ME: His mom’ll never take him back now!

TREE GUY: *snickersnort*

MOM: Fine.

I’ve gotta get back to work collecting enough decorations for a mermaid-and-pirate tree. I’ve made some headway for a Nintendo-themed tree in the form of a couple of Super Mario keychains, but I have yet to acquire a good Power Star tree-topper. Maybe next year.

OH MAN YOUR ICON. I LOVE IT.

I sadly haven't been getting into the Christmas spirit just yet, but that's mostly due to the end-of-term workdump.e I figure when we do our customary move to Chris's grandparents' house where there's a Christmas tree and a fireplace and (hopefully) snow I'll start feeling it more.

It's always a bit harder before one gets to the Xmas destination, yes. I do miss the snow this year, too--it's been that ugly cold haze here. At least it's freezing?

You just know that if the Benderverse had Xmas, Iroh would be ALL OVER it.

Does your mom ever walk ahead of you in public, pretending like she doesn't know you?

Half the time she's right in there with us.

This made me wonder: Has anyone done such a thing? This from someone whose sister made a dolphin puppet the tree topper one year.
And lo:

We just did our tree decorating! Actually getting the tree was super quick this year: we found a nice 6'-7' Noble Fir right away. Even putting on the stand when we got home was fast & easy, and that never happens.

We put a few albums on spiral play while we hung the ornaments:
Béla Fleck & The Flecktones Jingle All the Way - You haven't lived until you've heard "Jingle Bells" sung by Tuvan throat-singers accompanying a banjo-fronted jazz-funk band
The Incredible Jimmy Smith Christmas '64 - Hammond organ Christmas bebop
Glenn Miller A Christmas Concert
Dave Brubeck A Dave Brubeck Christmas
Vince Guaraldi A Charlie Brown Christmas soundtrack

Makes it a little difficult to sing along to "What Child Is This - Dyngyldai," though.

[livejournal.com profile] nobleplatypus pointed out a while back that Fleck does each day in his "Twelve Days of Christmas" in a different key and time signature: the first day is 1/4, the 2nd is 2/4, the 3rd 3/4, etc.. That whole album is unbelievably cool.

The Vince Guaraldi Trio's Charlie Brown album remains definitively Christmas for me, though. I even like "My Little Drum."

The sudden total changes in texture between each day is obvious, but I hadn't realized they were doing time signatures in order. That's hilarious!
