Spent some time last night talking to Claire in Spanish. She should get extra points for speaking a second language over the phone, which is much harder than doing it in person. But either way, for claiming not to be very good at it, she's, well, pretty good at it. A little confused on some of the irregular verbs, but then who isn't? All she needs is a little confidence ... and hell, who doesn't?
In my Japanese class this week everyone is panicking over the oral test on Friday, worrying about how to fit X number of grammatical patterns into the dialogue and poring over their vocabulary in utter terror. I, in my hubris, refuse to worry and plan to just take it as it comes. The best way to learn language, I've found, is to just barge right in and lay about you with everything you've got. Provided you aren't plagued by, well, the plague, at which point you should probably wait until the hideous harfing hacking cough takes its leave first.
Claire's starting to get the idea, though. She can already be funny in Spanish, which is a step as well. Soon we'll be carrying on in both languages.
