God dammit, I gotta get me a telescope. And find another place to stargaze, since there's a big dang streetlight right in front of the center of the galaxy in the spot I'm normally at.

On the plus side, I can recognize quite a few more stars now! But I think it'd be even more fun with a telescope.

Do you have binoculars? Binoculars are like mini telescopes for BOTH eyes. They are really nice and often dads have them in glove boxes or attics or drawers and have forgotten all about them until you ask. Might be worth a try.

Then you can find Andromeda and lose a few hours staring at it.

I do indeed, but I can't hold the darn things steady very well, especially when I'm juggling my glasses, a red flashlight, an astronomy book. I suppose what I REALLY need is a tripod.

Or a nice place to sit on with your elbows propped up on your legs. A comfy chair and/or a blanket will get you a long way.

They do sell binocular mounts for tripods. Binoculars are really nice for open clusters. And the Moon.

Of course you do! Hobbes even has one in your icon, silly me. But yes, a tripod is very handy. Telescopes aren't too expensive these days, even.
