It’s that time again!

Remember when I was going through a medswitch and it was sucking and so I asked y’all to distract me? Well, I am not switching meds, but this week still sucks for its own reasons, and everything is making me nervous, and by god I need distracting again. So please, Internet, I appeal to you: DISTRACT ME.

Go ahead! It can be anything! Videos! Book recommendations! Dumb mindless Flash games! Blogs! GIFs! Trivia! Puzzles! Timesuck sites! Anything! JUST POST SOMETHING.

Here, I’ll get us started with distractions of my own:

The Food Timeline, on the history of food.

ARKive is an image database of the biological organisms of Earth. It is also blessed by my main man David Attenborough!

Torn World is a source of anxiety for me right now because it is a responsibility for me, but if you're not in the Land Of Neuroses you get things like sea monsters, the mysteriously tame Rainbow Rainforest, and huge shaggy unicorns. It's pretty damn cool, really.

And videos:

(I love the Two-Headed Monster so much, especially when you see how each head entertains itself "alone.")

Okay, your turn!

I take it you Stumble, yes? Because if not, it will effectively distract you FOREVER.

Musictonic will search youtube for music videos by the artist of your choice and play them all for you.

Starship, a musical roughly based on "Starship Troopers." It features GIANT BUG PUPPETS.

This is way too much fun.

... I have never seen or read Starship Troopers. I should fix this.

That matrix app there is AWESOME. It reminds me of a reflecting wall ... thing ... set up near one of the buildings at the U of O, but with MUSIC!

You should! Though honestly, you don't need to be at all familiar with it to enjoy the musical version. ;)

ISN'T IT? I was messing with it this weekend, and my brother poked his head into the room and asked if I was listening to Phoenix.

Jumping stilts, possibly the coolest stilts ever.
Professor Elemental - Fighting Trousers: "Put away your ukelele or I'll tell you where to stick it!"
I admit it. I laugh every time.
Pants.

And that crayon sketch makes me happy every time.

The Periodic Table of Videos channel has a lot of neat chemistry stuff - I just watched the one where they "chemically analyzed" Cadbury Creme Eggs (spoilers: hilarity ensues.)
Fire + idiots is always funny. This one involves a flaming melon.
The Toronto Song, in which a Canadian band rags on Canada.
Duckling eeee
Owl eeee
Short, cute, wordless comic.
Bizarre Inglip ReCaptcha meme.
Food snark. Relatedly, more food snark.
MRIs of food.
This is what happens when you turn every frame of a movie into a line 1 pixel wide and jam them all together.
Southeast Asian steampunk - though it's more a collection of items than a storyline.
From: [identity profile] cougarfang.livejournal.com
Also, the Amateur Transplants sang a bunch of hilarious parody songs about human medicine, my favorites being The Anaesthetist's Hymn and Paracetamoxyfrusebendroneomycin (which I think I found when looking for Paradimethylaminobenzaldehyde.) And then some other people sang The Colorectal Surgeon's Song, and, well, you can probably keep going from there XD

The guys with the gasoline melon make me laugh so HARD every single time. I must have watched that movie at least a thousand times. Gonna go watch it again. (I think others think I'm crazy - I'm getting that indulgent look from the boyfriend.)

"AHHHH, SHIT!! AHHHH FUCK!! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!"

Edit:
I just realized I forgot to link The Cow Song as well.

Damn, I spend too much time on Youtube... >_>;;

My favorite is Malcolm solves his problems with a chainsaw. It's amazing how many times I've found appropriate places to use it!

Heh. Just listened to it for the umpteenth time, since I was at the link anyway, and it STILL makes me laugh out loud at work. I'm so easy.

At first I thought that Inglip thing was a knock-off of Z̛̔̾ͨ͒̇͆ͭ͏̛̜̱̦̳̙͚̟̖̱͢͝Ą̨̛̞̺̗̙̰̲͉̭͚͔̯͋̑͊̋͡L̷͓͍͔̹͙̤̎͗ͮ̓̒̄́̊̎ͮ̆̇̈́͐̓̿͌̚͡G̛͓͎̯͓̰̞̬̣̫̭̬͙͙̞͉̘͍ͩ̽ͪ̂͌ͯͨ͊̏͌̋̌̑ͮͤ̉ͣ̌ͨ́͡O͆̌̉̀͐̌̈ͧ͡҉̸̣̤̲̫̺̟̦̪͉̫͘ͅ, but I kept reading and it turned out to be pretty funny in its own right.

I'm fond of Etsy's "Pounce" feature for a timesink -- you can see newly listed items, or just sold items. It's kinda cool to see what people are buying!

Damn You Auto Correct is sometimes gut-bustingly funny.

I wonder what my choices of distraction say about me? (Also, I tend to Google myself WAY too often and too late at night for my own good. Or read Craigslist personal ads for laffs.)

Also, some online fiction from Seanan McGuire ([livejournal.com profile] seanan_mcguire:

Shadow Hill Road about the secret lives of urban legends and road stories, following Rose Marshall, better known as 'and then the trucker discovered the hitchhiker he carried last night as a ghost'.

Velveteen Versus (Also, here, since the website needs to be updated...) about a former child superheroine who tried to leave the business, to the dismay of the corporation who sponsored her.

Seanan is also doing some short fiction on her livejournal as a prelude to her next book release, chronicling events some two decades before the book setting.

I love those videos! Let's see, distractions:

All of the sites on the cheezeburger network, but especially I Can Has Cheezeburger (lolcats), It Made My Day, Learn From My Fail, Crazy Things Parents Say, and There I Fixed It. Also seconding Damn You Autocorrect.

www.hyperboleandahalf.blogspot.com is hilarious, also www.thingsmygirlfriendandihavearguedabout.com

If you like Doctor Who fan videos, check out The Power Of Me and Seduff's channels, as well as http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=As6NXru59NI and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=98rtEm7sUsU&feature=player_embedded and the Doctor Who Official Tumblr. I also found a Doctor Who fanfiction archive, but the first several stories I read were high on the disturbing side, so proceed with caution: www.whofic.com

For games, www.bontegames.com has some nice flash puzzle games plus links to lots of others - for short, amusing and confusing point and click games with a weird kind of logic check out the minoto games there. Also a more serious review site is www.jayisgames.com, which organizes reviews by category so you can find any kind of game you like, and their reviews are pretty thorough and accurate. I like the hidden object and escape the room variety myself.

Sorry for not making them links - I'm not very good at the html. Hope this helps!

'Course I've been needing distraction too, but I did kinda like http://www.platinumgrit.com for a new webcomic to archive through- though the archive setup was awkward and I didn't realize I was missing 'episodes' until things got SO disjointed I realized it wasn't just a stylistic thing. (It's fairly disjointed)

Also, if you have never played Plants vs. Zombies, is well worth the $ to buy the thing.I just finally got bored of it after a month of absolute addiction but it cost me $20 so not bad for a month >_>

Oh, and Netflix is live streaming (or was!) a cartoon from my childhood that's totally fun and aged decently actually. Is cheesy as hell, and of course NOT historically accurate (although not as bad as one might think at times. AT TIMES) so you could watch Mysterious Cities of Gold. Well, if you have Netflix at all.

(And if you did at all have netflix.. we could totally IM discuss those cartoons or other movies as we watch 'em!)

Other than those things, alas, I got nothin' much.

Not even trying HTML today.

In between studying feverishly I've mostly been occupying myself this week with ridiculous, awesome British childrens' show Knightmare. My various shots at explaining it all sucked, so I'll just link you to the first episode at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4bwK5H8Ui-E&playnext=1&list=PLD834850F29F3069D and assert that if you aren't hooked within the first episode I'll eat my hat.

If you're in the mood to get your Twilight hate on, there's the awesome blog Reasoning with Vampires at http://reasoningwithvampires.tumblr.com/ which is written by a heavily literary young woman who snarks up the language side of the books as well as the themes.

And there's always this weird little Java dealie that makes beautiful flamey art: http://www.escapemotions.com/experiments/flame/index.html#top. (I personally keep trying to do a good Trogdor, with limited success.)

I may post more as I think of 'em. In the meantime, do know that we miss you like hell over here and wish you the best.

This is my all-time favorite play-for-every-new-guest-at-my-house track:

Overtures, from "Mary Schneider Yodels the Classics!"

I dare you to listen and not smile. :P My boyfriend screams and begs me not to play it again... and still ends up actually on-the-floor laughing everytime.

YES. I HAVE THE WHOLE CD.
