EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE Martin Freeman! :D :D :D When I first heard that a guy from Sherlock was going to be Bilbo I misunderstood; I thought it meant Benedict Cumberbatch* was going to be a hobbit. Which would've been odd, even though I've no doubt he could've pulled it off (he's played Stephen frickin' Hawking, yo!). Then I realised it was Freeman, and was all "oh, well THAT makes sense!" XD

If I were to put Cumberbatch in the starring role of the film version of a classic book I'd pick The Shadow Over Innsmouth. Hmm. I must remember that for when I'm a famous film maker who gets to do whichever film I want with whomever I like.

I have been going EEEEEEE like a demented dolphin ever since I saw that video. Bag End! Rivendell! Ian McKellan! MARTIN FREAKING FREEMAN oh I love it so so much. I am feeling that same crazy excited feeling that I did when the LotR movies came out, and now I wish I still had that squee-ing Dom Monaghan icon I once had. :D

He is such a hobbit that when I heard it was going to be Martin Freeman, my first thought was, "Well, duh." Mostly since Ian Holm is too old to play Bilbo now.

I KNOW, RIGHT? And for someone who obsessively watched the Making Of stuff in the DVDs, I was almost as excited for the behind the scenes stuff to resume. I almost shrieked when they cut to Andy Serkis getting motion-capture makeup. THE BAND IS GETTING BACK TOGETHER!

Yeah, that's the dude playing Bilbo, wearing a silly outfit, but at least he's wearing clothes. I know Martin Freeman from the most recent Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy movie--he plays Arthur Dent, and does the whole movie in a bathrobe. That's better than the other thing I know him from, Love Actually, in which he plays The Naked Guy. (Everyone else knows him from Sherlock, which I have yet to watch to find out if he wears clothes in that.)

Yes you do. :D It was shown on Swedish telly a while back, and at first I just thought "well, that was a nice way to spend a few hours", but I kept thinking about it, and the other week I realised I'd slipped into a new fandom quite without noticing it. XD Now I'll have to find the original books somewhere*, 'cos I know enough to realise there were a crapload of references to book details in the tv show, but not enough to catch all of them.


*I know they're available through the Gutenberg Project, but I still prefer to read stories on paper. *is old school*

Martin Freeman? I haven't seen Sherlock, so I can only imagine Arthur Dent as a hobbit. Strange.

I'm still worried they're going to overdo this adaptation. Two films? There's not that much stuff going on in the book. Also, the guys playing Dwarfs are mostly topheavy action types. It looks like they're squeezing out the quirky charm of the book to go for the Darker and Edgier vibe.

Huh. I've seen The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy and Love Actually, but I've never really paid any attention to Freeman before. It's like with Christian Bale; I didn't realise I'd seen (and loved) him in a whole lot of films until Batman Begins came out and my brother told me that Bale was in Mio in the Land of Faraway, a film I'd loved as a kid.
