Today’s Surreal Moment: At dinner I had a headache and asked Dad to turn off his music for a night, whereupon he threw a hissy fit and stormed downstairs with a tray to eat his dinner in front of the TV.
… Why do I suddenly feel like the parent of a teenager?

Date: 2011-03-20 04:26 am (UTC)The family music war has been skewed all my life. Mostly it hasn't existed because I got most of my musical taste from my parents; only in recent years has it become an issue sas Dad grows increasingly deaf and I grow increasingly uncomfortable with background music. (I love music, but any background noise interferes with my ability to understand conversations and makes me jumpy.) So yeah, Darn You Old Folks And Your Loud Rock And Roll is a running theme around here now.

Me: "Huh?"
Mom: "It's something that... Well, all my classmates were doing it!"
Me: "What?"
Mom: *sheepish look* "I got a tattoo."
I couldn't help throwing in a "if all your classmates were jumping off a bridge would you do that too??" which cued my mother to the absurdity of the conversation. Oh, old people.
