Anyone have any links to somewhere I can send money? The Captain Atom Containment Fund, perhaps? Or just Food And Blankets For Just Such An Emergency Foundation? I want to do more than just sit and worry, but it's hard to be useful from half a world away.

Doctors Without Borders is my go-to charity. However, you might also be interested in helping out with ShelterBox, which does cool things. A whole bunch of authors have donated ARCs and such for a drawing to people donating in that direction: details can be found here.

A friend of mine is working with All Hands in Haiti, and I've been really impressed with their work. They are sending a contingent to Japan as soon as possible, and money donated to them will go directly to clean-up and rebuilding.

My favorite thing about BGR is they don't up and leave a disaster area after the press does, or even when another disaster that seems "more pressing" happens (they just make another team for that, as well). Through BGR I do volunteer work every week to help with on-going efforts in Chengdu/Sichuan, China, even though the massive 8.0 earthquake (which then caused massive mudslides) happened in 2008.

In previous international disasters, it's been pretty much assumed that the Red Cross is the go to donation site. They also, I believe, allow you to specify which disaster your contribution helps fund.
