Permit me to sing you the praises of my new love!

I have become enamored of quad rule notebooks.

It’s funny how a notebook can change the way you think—college-rule feels sharper than wide-rule, and I can scribble with abandon in silly notebooks,* but I’ve never felt so clear as I do writing on graph paper. I have no idea why, but it is a very good feeling—like I am on top of things.

I picked up a quad-rule book originally because I’ve been getting into maps lately. Trying to map out my conworlds, you see. I’m not very spatially smart, so I admit it was a Thus Spake Zarathustra moment when I realized that maps help me visualize a story—and now I’m discovering how darn much fun maps can be.** And the graph paper? Immensely handy for that.

It’s the simple things in life you treasure.

*Fuck all y’all, Ed Hardy stuff is GREAT. You want to say only douchebags own his stuff, then meet my Ed Hardy notebook, and then meet my Ed Hardy mermaid trainers as I kick you with them! That will prove I am not a douchebag!

**Another thing I now have in common with Bilbo!

I loved nothing about Germany so much as the nice, pretty, smooth-papered quad rule notebooks I was able to purchase there. I've found nothing like them in the States. They were also thick enough that I could write on both sides with Stabilo marker pens of glorious colors and not get bleedthrough. I was so, so happy with my drawing/writing implements and surfaces and really wish I'd thought to go buy a few more of those notebooks before leaving.
