Well, I’m back. Feeling better, too, despite the cat’s failure to also be back. It sucks, but I’m no longer breaking down crying every few hours. Nothing makes you philosophical like a grand vista and the calming presence of nature.

Granted, the presence of roughly eleven million tourists I could have done without.

I did try to fill the hole Charlie left in my heart with bacon while I was there. The bacon could not fill the metaphorical hole, but I'm pretty sure it at least clogged a couple of arteries.

Seems to have done Mom good, too. We have both lost something, and we are both still quite unhappy about it, but hey! We are also both semi-functional again!

Anyway, now that the insanity, both awesome and awful, of the last few weeks is, with any luck, behind me, what’d I miss? Did you guys have any shakeups while I was gone? Personal triumphs? Fortunes won? Fortunes lost? Natural disasters? Fandom implosions? Now is the time to catch me up!

Man, and I’ve got to catch up, too. Maybe I should finally go back to that “work” thing that seems to keep me from losing all my money, ask y’all if my Supplement Income With Junk plan has any possibility of succeeding, and keep on top of all that shit you gotta do if you wanna be an author.* Not to mention my stack of unread library books and that meme I’ve had from [livejournal.com profile] nobleplatypus sitting around for, like, two months now. I got things to keep me busy.

Life goes on. I just hope it does it QUIETLY for a while.

*I have a two-pronged approach to That Shit right now: agent queries for Doctors!, and, because like any writer I have come to believe that my current work is COMPLETE GARBAGE, writing something totally different. Just before everything exploded last week I managed to complete notes on the structures of the OGYAFE books 2-4, and at this early stage the entire quartet still sounds halfway decent! Get back to me around the end of the third book, though …

I'm sorry the kitty is still AWOL, though I'm glad you're feeling a bit better.

You SHOULD do my meme! I want to know how you'd cast Hamlet with muppets!

Y'know, I'm having a difficult time with that simply because I am no more than passingly familiar with Hamlet. Plus, do I get any non-Muppet cast members, like Scrooge in Christmas Carol or Jim Hawkins and Long John Silver in Treasure Island? THESE ARE IMPORTANT CONSIDERATIONS.

Thank you, that song is now the ONLY thing in my brain.

Well, if you DID get non-muppet cast members, that would pretty much free up any of the numerous guest stars from The Muppet Show, which would allow you to get away with using no muppets at all, and we can't have THAT.

What if I free up non-human characters from Sesame Street? Would that help?

Good luck with your kitty!

Random stuff -

I survived the job from Hell.

I'm sorry your kitty's still gone, but I'm glad you're feeling a little better.

As far as major events, not much to report on my end. The Aikido nationals came, and I did better than I expected, so there's that.

Glad you're in a better brainspace now! May your Interesting Times stay on vacation and not come back for a very long while :)

I don't know if you've seen Where Are Your Keys before (supposed to be a radical new way of learning languages), I just saw it recently on a friend's Facebook and it looked interesting.

Update from here: I'm working on a sailor suited super heroine costume. It's going so-so for the time being. Not the results I would like, but god damn sewing on stripes on a circle skirt is hard.

I'm going to be selling my art again over Labor Day. I'm hoping for a few extra bucks off of that.

Aaaand I found a woman who I'm pretty sure legitimately hates me. She reminds me a great deal of that old lady from Family Guy whom Brian falls in love with. (Bad use of "whom"? My apologies.)

Glad you're feeling better, pookie. Hope that keeps up.

Oh, bugger. It sucks when cats just go missing, and you realize after a bit that they are not coming back, and... yeah. (While I was in the family home week before last, I realized that our oldest cat is getting quite elderly for an indoor/outdoor cat, and one day I'll come back to visit and he'll just not be there. Yeah.)

Me? I've, uh, moved twice in two weeks, and forced my extensive collection of books and yarn on my fiance, and still not finished my library science degree...

*hugs*

I have thrown myself back into the painting world to discover that I needed new brushes because all my old ones that I used to think were awesome actually suck.

Also we pretended to be adults by buying a new washing machine and dryer.

Hope your art sells! And is the sailor costume from a certain be-pigtailed anime heroine, perhaps?

And as to hating-you lady, uh, congratulations? *hums "Somebody Hates Me"*

Especially since it's possible for cats to work their way back after WEEKS. It's hard to move on that way.

Sounds like you had a couple weeks kinda like mine, then! Let's hope that's the last of the moving for a while. And say hi to your fiance!

Yes. I'm not sure which will be harder - being there during the weeks when the old curmudgeon decides to bugger off for weeks and, I dunno, hunt moose or something* like he did a few times while I was in high school, or not being there when he finally does disappear and my family is left waiting for him and I come home and he's gone. Granted, the area we live in is full of people who will take pot-shots at cats while out hunting/messing around with their bb gun, so...

And good god, I hope it's the last move for a while. I feel like someone swapped out my brain for a bowl of jello in the night.

*He is starting to look more and more like Greebo in his old age. I would not put it beyond him to bugger off to hunt moose if he felt like it, despite there being no moose anywhere near us.

*hugs* I'm sorry to hear, belatedly, about the absence of your cat. They do have the most extraordinary knack for wandering off...
