Hoo, boy. That last kid on the other side of our office wall really didn’t want a shot.

I mean, you usually get to listen to the kids shriek in understandable protest of the process of medical fortification, but this little dude's wails and tearful pleas spoke not just of nervous suspicion and an owie, but worlds of betrayed trust, agony, and terror.

“You know,” Mom said as we listened to the forceful howls of I DON WANNA I DON WANNA, “I used to wonder why that pediatrician always looks so morose.”

“I would too if I made small children cry for a living,” I said.

It strikes me that that'd be a good job for a light bastard Jedi,* a Lex Luthor type who likes to be evil but also has good PR skills. He could make kids cry all day and yet he'd still be hailed as a great guy.**

Hell, maybe I should look into that job! Because after even a little exposure to school's-out spring break at The Local Library And Now Apparently Day Care Center, I want to make a few kids cry, myself.

*A term coined when my brother was explaining to me that his status in Knights of the Old Republic was Light Side, but he was trying to do a few jerk moves anyway just for variety.

**Except by morons like Jenny McCarthy.

What happened to a few comments back when you were all takin' Vuffi Raa's side about still feeling pity for animals? ;)

Granted, small children can be a lot more obnoxious and irrational, so it is a lot more tempting to kick 'em ...
