I, too, have this inability to enjoy, distinguish, or even watch without snarking, these films. I think the only thing that ever won an Oscar that I cared about at the time was Return of the King, and dude, that had horses, battle scenes, and CGI totally-not-dragons in it.

Generally when a movie is TRYING for an Oscar is when you need to worry. RotK's awards were incidental.

Also, my sister and I have decided that Will Smith Tries For An Oscar is an entire subgenre of movies. Poor bastard needs a consolation Oscar at this point.

I've watched the awards once or twice, mostly to see what my favorite actresses were wearing. I don't believe I've ever seen all the nominee movies for even the largest categories.
