Hey, look! Ellen Million’s nifty sandbox project, Torn World, is open to the public! If you are a writer, an artist, or just a worldbuilder, stop by and see if you’d like to play in a world where time got away from everyone, where nomadic Northerners breed snow-unicorn herds and avoid deadly time-storms, while city-dwelling Southerners study science and the art of documenting everything with licenses, where the language gulf is not just of geography, but of time, and where you can create a character and send them exploring this world.

The LJ is [livejournal.com profile] torn_world. I am going to do Tuesday entries discussing the new writing every week. Enjoy!

Ooh, consider me intrigued! Also, lol at your icon. What'd CJ Cherryh do? I admit I've never made it through a book of hers, but I've only tried once or twice and with me that's no guarantee...

Ahhh, I thought maybe she was terrible in some way. As I say, I've read part of a book of hers that I own, twice. My attention span is probably more to blame than her writing, as I've been in a reading slump for ages.

And yeah, I remember that post now. Oh people. *tsks*.

Sorry, I had to switch icons and delete that last post anyway--the damn icon keeps crashing Firefox.

I have the same attention span problem lately. It's not fun.

Mark down another curious person about the icon. I quite liked Cyteen, and a fair chunk of her SF oevure is at least readable for me, so I'd be curious to know if it's ironic or if you really aren't fond of her stuff.

Likely it's a reference to what's-his-goof saying that women ruined Sci-Fi by, y'know, having vaginas.

Ahhh. I must've missed that particular Internet kerfuffle, but that's pretty stupid even for the Intarwebs.

Yeah, at one point some dumb bastard decided that women and LGBT folk were just starting to write sci-fi and were RUINING it, despite the pointers that women and LGBT had been writing it since the beginning, and also that they wrote some good stuff.

I adore the Cherryh books I've read--the Chanur saga is terrific.
