Ah, Monday and Tuesday mornings. Those are the times I help out at Dad’s office, where my back room shares a wall with a pediatrician’s exam room.

Means I get to listen to small children who don’t really want to hear about the sound scientific principles of vaccination getting shots these mornings.

Go ahead and tell me there’s a more depressing way to start the day. I dare you.

Yael's preschool usually does a flu shot clinic. Gwennie's mom was giving the shots last year and she said to Yael, "Please, next time I'm special helper in class, remember that I'm really a nice person!"

Yael looked very dubiously at her.

I can't really blame Yael. The lists of "nice people" and "people who stab you" do not often overlap. And "So you won't get sick" is a pretty poor explanation for a needle when you're still not good with abstract, conditional futures.
