Epic Quest Time!

As of yesterday,
acrossthelake has officially moved … well, across the lake. She is at school in Reading, where she will be studying English literature.
The day before that I gave her a subdued little sendoff—I’m never good with climactic good-byes, because it’s difficult to convince my brain that they will be gone when, in fact, they’re RIGHT THERE. So instead a prolonged and tearful farewell or an epic party we did a doll photostory and then I destroyed her will to live with a showing of Experiment #416, Fire Maidens From Outer Space.* Then we both sat around and thanked our lucky stars for the internet so’s we could keep in touch.
Oh, and I also did some more admiring of her birthday gift to me:

That’s right, my friends: I am now the proud owner of a giant handmade 4th-Doctor scarf. This thing represents six months of knitting and some of the best color-matching the 70s ever did. And I love the way it can act as a nerdwhistle—most people will see it and think MY GOD THAT IS A LONG SCARF,** whereas nerds will see it and think OMGTOMBAKERYAY. I may have to keep tallies of which kinds of compliments I get.
It’ll definitely keep me warm.
Anyway, good luck,
acrossthelake! We here in SLC salute you!
*The movie is the typical sort of painfully padded misogynistic nonsense you get in those old B-movies, but this experiment was notable for the appearance of Timmy, the demon hellspawn who looks oddly like a silvery-black version of Crow.
** I took some creative liberties in the photostory, there—in reality the thing’s only about 57 feet long.
