The Rift Widens

I don’t understand Sarah Palin at all.

And I’m not talking about the seemingly insurmountable rift between our ideals. That could only occur if I had even the foggiest idea what she’s talking about.

The scary thing is how prevalent that’s getting. Was I seeing the world through a child’s rose-colored glasses, or are people getting crazier?

I'd say it's everything.

I think it's the part where I actually try to follow her logic that trips me up. I mean, following her syntax is hard enough.

People may or may not be getting crazier, but the problem (well my take on such) is also that the media outlets of the US, in order to be more 'entertaining' and get better ratings, started giving them more and more spotlight... which unfortunately started legitimizing them, and making various crazies coalesce under 'causes' that appealed to them, even if they hadn't thought of THAT until they heard of it. *sigh*

Slacktivist has some really interesting analyses of that weird doublethink of power and persecution. It's tough to break through to those people because the paradox is so ingrained--and no matter which way they're arguing, they're damn sure they're right. They are impervious to logic.
