Plunge, Dunk, Whatever.

There is a naked doll on the end of my bed in an undignified position. This is not nearly as alarming as earlier when her face was covered with masking tape and her body was wrapped in a grocery bag. For a moment my sister thought I was practicing serial killing.

I explained that I’m making good on my threat to fix the everloving hell out of Laurel’s hair. With luck a shampoo and condition have done the trick; otherwise she and I are in for an arduous day with a fabric softener. Either way the curling process will involve hot water, which, as my buddy Liz can confirm, becomes a dangerous substance when I get involved.

Hence the emergency backup wig in my closet.

At least I have an ally at the wig store where I got the shampoo. This nice wig store girl offered to recurl the wig for me—and offered very hard. This girl may be a fellow doll enthusiast. Unfortunately, her skill is no match for my hubris, so I’m going to give it a shot on my own first. God help us all.

You have such talent/creativity when it comes to dolls...have you ever thought of starting a blog devoted to them? Or maybe just writing a take-or-make book on them?

I know my mom would be interested, she really wants to fix up my American Girls dolls all nice and display them.

I love curling a doll's hair; hot water perms are terrific. I did it to the two Lindseys I sold, and to a Samantha that needs to be eBayed. I do have to say that I fucked up the first time I tried, but the thing is? all you need to do to fix it is to dunk the head in boiling water again.

Coming back a little late because I got it done and she looks fantastic! I didn't have enough curlers to do it all at once, so she got a 3-day perm. I poured boiling water into a shallow bowl and let it cool for five minutes, then dunked her becurlered hair in. Cripes, I was amazed!
