Not to self: watch out when expressing mild annoyance. Yesterday Mom declared she’d skip work and be home for the inauguration. “Great! You can wake me up!” I said, and went to bed.

Today I got a call from Mom at 9:55. Now, that's too bad she had to go to work, but I’d figured she could have called sooner. I was irritated and griped to my sister, who took offense personally and yelled at me, and then I told Mom I was a little annoyed and got “You’re a grownup. I thought you’d figure it out yourself.”

Asking a lot of an asleep person, I think. Oh, well. I got up, she got to see it, we're pals again, and I regret nothing!

Speaking of asleep, Obama is not the one unique politician who doesn’t bore the hell out of me with his speeches, even if he DID say "science" in a positive context. But his boringness is a good sign, because not once have I wanted to throw a shoe at the TV. I don’t think that’s been the case with a presidential speech for … oh, about eight years now.

(I know it's petty, but I just love to think of W watching the excitement and jubilation of the last few days--all the people talking about how this is historic and people are so excited and happy and how great this is gonna be--and just SEETHING with jealousy. "What's the big deal about THIS guy, anyway?" Now if we could just try him for war crimes ...

ETA: Okay, so I admit, we finished the CNN sentence when they said, "And now the transfer of power, when Barack Obama escorts Former President Bush to the East Entrance... " "And throws him down the stairs?" "Hell yeah!" "Picture it: Bush rolling down the steps, flung suitcase banging him in the head just as he's picking himself up ..." "'AND STAY OUT!'"

Also, apparently Obama has "great penmanship." My god! He's practically perfect in every way!)

I said to my dad the other day that it must suck to be W right now, what with the whole Being One of the Most Hated People in the World thing and all the Only __ More Days Until He's Gone statements, and dad's reply was, 'It'd only suck to be him if he was sane. But he really believes he's right, so I think he's just laughing at all this like we're all stupid. Like how he thought the guy throwing shoes was funny.' Yeah...that sounds about right.

Hey, if Obama's at the Practically Perfect in Every Way point on the measuring tape, does that put W at 'Extremely Stubborn and Suspicious' or 'Rather Inclined to Giggle, Doesn't Put Things Away'?

*grin* I think W honestly thinks we're too stupid to realize what's good for us--but he's been at least a little defensive, so he does know we're displeased. I noted with interest that he is a little jealous, too--he keeps obliquely referring to the sort of awakening our precious Obama's gonna get once he finds out what he's up against.

Big-Time Dick, though, obviously regrets nothing--it got to the point where Jim Lehrer, Mr. Impassive himself, was interviewing him and basically saying "Really? REALLY? OH. MY. GOD.--REALLY?!" That's some serious denial, that is.

Hey, if Obama's at the Practically Perfect in Every Way point on the measuring tape, does that put W at 'Extremely Stubborn and Suspicious' or 'Rather Inclined to Giggle, Doesn't Put Things Away'?

Take a wild guess. ;)

Oh yeah, I can remember a couple times of Dubya saying 'When Obama sits down in the Oval Office the ENORMITY of how HARD it is to be president will HIT HIM and he'll cry or something. It's really hard, you know. Being president and all.' Well it's true it's a tough job, dude, but uh...I would hope Obama is intelligent enough to realize this?

Cheney is truly evil incarnate, in my opinion (yes, K, but what do you REALLY think of him?). He gives me the creeps. But he protected us from terrorist attacks except really he didn't he just helped abridge key liberties, so that's okay.

I DON'T KNOW, personally I think W fits BOTH OF THOSE.

I had a similar reaction to "...now Obama escorts former president Bush from the white house..."

I was picturing him holding Bush's arm twisted up behind his back, and ending the sentence...and into the waiting patrol car."

I was at said inauguration, and when the announced said that 'escorting Bush from the White House' thing, there were a number of alternatives offered as to where he should escort him to. I think the funniest may have been the guy who offered 'straight to Hell' and his companion, who snarked back 'No, are you kidding? With the petroleum bills Hell has, the Bushies already own that.'

I know!! *Squee* I didn't get to watch Inauguration day, sadly. Combo of having to work and not really having TV. Must find highlights online somewhere.
