bloodyrosemccoy: (Christmas Tree)

Okay, dudes, I have decided to do an advent calendar this year, because advent calendars are fun!  And this year, I am going to do a meme calendar!  I found a Christmas meme on[info]queenlyzard’s blog with 25 questions, so I will answer one a day until Christmas.  I’ll mark the posts as advent posts so that people who get sick of Christmas can skip ’em. But hey—it gives me something to talk about

Since I missed December first, two questions today!

1. Wrapping paper or gift bags?

Oh, definitely wrapping paper. I love wrapping—I take pride in doing it well, and it’s kinda meditative.  And it makes one of our traditions a lot more fun—when Mom corrals all us kids to wrap each other’s presents at the same time, in the same room. We sit there with furniture blocking our view of each other’s stuff and comment on it as we wrap—“Damn, you are going to love this!”

Dad, however, did rock the gift bagging one year when he stuffed a large box in a white Hefty bag that stretched till we could see through it, then stuck a bow on top. To this day I have never seen a worse wrapping job.  He should get a medal.

2. Real tree or Artificial?

I like me a real tree, because it smells good and feels right.  But this year Mom bought the most amazing thing ever—a 3-foot tall, pink aluminum Christmas tree.*  I had no idea they actually made those.  I thought the Charlie Brown Christmas Special was exaggerating.

I do have one more tree, though—the dolls always set one up in my room, and it is indeed artificial.  I was going to dig it out today, but I think it’ll be tomorrow instead.

I'm partial to bags, because I hate wrapping and am terrible at it.

I'm quite used to artificial trees because my dad's allergic, so we've always had a fake tree. No messy pine needles to clean up, afterwards! And the limbs did bend in a lovely and fun way that made playing with the ornaments that much cooler.

Pink aluminium? I am impressed.

My family is the only one I know that still uses real candles as well as a real tree. They make Christmas for me.

My mom used to have this awesome 2' tall plastic tree with great fiber-optic twinkly lights. It finally died, though. I keep looking for something like it every year when Christmas rolls around, but I've not yet found anything.

I actually just found them the other day at Rite Aid for $10 apiece. I'm getting them for everyone I need presents for :D
