Why Do I Live Here, Again?

I got my voter pamphlet! I hope you all remembered to register. *adjusts Good Citizen Halo*
Here’s why I love living in Utah:
“… I believe in fiscal discipline and a strong military. I oppose abortion, and believe that marriage is a union between a man and a woman. We must stop illegal immigration at the border and protect American jobs. Combating global arming (sic) and moving America towards greater energy independence is vital. America must win the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and bring our troops home. I firmly support the right of Americans to bear arms. …”
Thank you for that statement, Democratic candidate for Congressional District 3! I am glad I live in a different district!

Date: 2008-10-18 01:47 am (UTC)I don't even WANT to know about the Republican. I'm hoping it's just the Bizarro District where red is green and up is down and Democrats are conservative and Republicans are liberal. But I have the sinking feeling it's more like the choices boil down to Republican, Even More Republican, and Batshit Constitution.

Date: 2008-10-18 05:21 am (UTC)UT-03 is insane. Absolutely nuts. It's the third most Republican district in the nation, only superceded by UT-01 and some place in the Alabaman hinterland. People there actually primaried out Chris Cannon, one of the most staunch neocons in Congress, for being insufficiently rabid. He wasn't wingnutty enough, basically. Jason Chaffetz, who is in favor of walling off the border and shooting illegal immigrants, will win this thing handily.

Date: 2008-10-19 02:51 am (UTC)We need a candidate...
Not like we have any chance of actually winning....
Yes, but if we never run anyone that would be lame....
Nobody wants to run.....
Well there is the crazy guy....
But he's crazy....
He could finance himself.....
At least we'd have a candidate on the ballot...
Make the other guy at least have to try....
Ok, we go with crazy guy. Just don't ask me to do anything for him.

Date: 2008-10-20 05:02 am (UTC)This guy's a special case of crazy--he was basically the only one they could get to run. The good news is he actually does seem to advocate Helping Poor People, so at least there's THAT ...
