… And now I’m in Wyoming. We’re going through Grandma’s stuff now, room by room, to get rid of or plunder. Now there’s a fun way to spend a weekend.
The good news is the Dude has driven up to join us, so he, my sister, and I can sit around and geek out on superheroes—discuss The Dark Knight, compare Deadpool to Dr. McNinja, argue our theories on what Ace gets up to between her two appearances,* etc.—tell stories to our family about the Crazy Nam Vet Calculus Teacher we loved so much, and reduce each other to gales of laughter talking about using computer language at inappropriate times.
And we are getting some tales of Dad’s Childhood, which I always picture in black and white, like all those nostalgia ideas of a bunch of kids frolicking through childhood outside. (Stories that start like “So we were playing John Wayne in the backyard and found some real whiskey …” “We had this go-cart and didn’t know if the brakes worked so we put the little sister in it and sent her down a hill …” “There was this family we were always at war with, we threw water balloons at each other, I think they were Mexican …” “I think our grandpa was a bit of a philanderer—remember that time he took us to the drive-in in the middle of the afternoon and left us in the car while he went to ‘visit’ that babe?”) So it’s not all depressing as hell.
The weather is, though. Nice and rainy. Perfect weather for sitting around and geeking out, and maybe a round of Scrabble. I think we’re gonna do just that.
I’m also gonna try later to get the latest Doctors! story up, when Dad isn’t sorting in the room where the ethernet cable resides. It may be in a couple days, though.
*I love my brother: he’s the only person I know who will hear I’m a DC-Ace fangirl and argue with me about how her psyche works instead of going “Ace? From Doctor Who?”

Date: 2008-08-15 08:51 pm (UTC)At the risk of making you lose all respect for me... that was my brain's immediate reaction. But it followed that with, Nah, she's talking about comics, and Ace was around for WAY more than two appearances, so there's hope, yeah? ;)

Date: 2008-08-15 10:03 pm (UTC)No matter which Ace, though, I still recommend not fucking with her, cuz with either one you're gonna get FRIED.

Date: 2008-08-18 11:27 pm (UTC)Plus, while DC is awash with Aces, there are a lot fewer females than males with the name, as far as I recall.
