I’ve been working on some oddball projects the last few days, too.
My doll Danny, twin brother of my doll Amber, has been suffering an unusual affliction: as a Mattel-doll brother of a PM sister,* he actually looks more girly because of the different face paint.** Since Danny is not planning to grow up to be Eddie Izzard, last night I finally got around to wiping that off.
And presto! Danny looks kinda like a boy!
Also! I got shoes! Wanna see?
We can’t resist a mermaid, precious, no we can’t.
Apparently these are the big thing. I don’t know anything about Ed Hardy, except that to judge by his work I'd guess he’s a tattoo artist who took a weird left turn and that he really likes to put his name on his work. (ETA:
jill_calico shamed me into looking up Ed Hardy. Turns out he is a tattoo artist, and all the clothes and stuff out now are by some other guy inspired by Ed Hardy. HA! I knew it looked tattoo-y, just by looking at all the shoes there! And this guy is the one writing Ed's name everywhere. Whatever pleases you, I guess.)
They’re not actually supposed to be laced—I guess the gromits are just for show. But I’m going to get me some laces when I can, because it looks better. Take that, Ed Hardy’s signature!
And!
I’ve always wanted a pair of these, dammit. And now I have them, and I’ve been wearing them everywhere. Like, while I nap. What can I say? I like shoes!

And that’s your Stuff Post Of The Day.
*For those of you who for reasons beyond me do not pay attention to American Girl, PM = pre-Mattel—a doll made before Mattel acquired the company. The PM dolls have almost no face paint at all—very light lip coloration and an almost invisible blush. The Mattel dolls have slightly more, with pinker lips and rosier cheeks.
**Also because Danny’s previous owner apparently decided that he was a pretty princess and doused him in glittery cream at some point. Makes me wonder who he was before he was Danny.

Date: 2008-07-08 11:39 pm (UTC)ETA: After a quick google, apparently the line is by Christian Audigier and inspired by Ed Hardy. So another designer felt the need to write someone else's name 38 times on a pair of shoes. Huh.
