The bell: it tolls for George Carlin.

I didn't grow up with him like a lot of you, and wasn't a huge fan of his comedy, but damn, the guy was an institution. Who, you know, hated institutions. But anyway, you gotta respect that.

I just read that. As one who graduated high school in the 1970's he was an icon. His ponderings and commentary on human foibles made his clean stuff just as good as his blue material. I'll never forget his bit on the invention of the telephone... "It's a good thing his name wasn't Alexander Graham Siren, how would you like to be woken up by that sucker in the middle of the night?"

Thanks for 35 years of smiles, George.

That's...terrible and strange. See I went to Atlantic City on Saturday and there was a billboard by the side of the highway advertising that Mr. Carlin was going to be performing at one of the casinos in July or August. And I thought to myself, 'That guy is awesome. Also, he seems poised to live forever.' I am sad now.
