Well, there are cultural differences, and then there are ATROCITIES. We gotta remember not to get the two confused.
What we forget is that people in any culture can be psychotic whack jobs. Some cultures do a better job of rationalizing these, but they are still NOT RIGHT.
People also need to remember that cultures aren't homogeneous--as Leila's response clearly shows.
400 years ago, it was fact that the earth was the center of the universe.
300 years ago, it was the white man's right to own slaves.
50 years ago, it was an abomination of god for a mixed race marriage.
Things can change, but the fact is, they will not be changed if people still tolerate this type of behavior. The man violently killed his own daughter and still has yet to receive punishment. As long as that type of behavior goes unchecked, things won't change.
