I find myself with a dilemma, here.  I have to do a project on folklore and popular culture this term, and must submit my proposal on Wednesday.  But I can’t for the life of me decide between two very cool topics—and so, as is traditional when one finds oneself in a dilemma, I submit the decision to you:

Which topic should Amelia cover in her anthropological project?

            A. MST3k fan culture
            B. The Great Pirate vs. Ninja Debate
            C. Those are both awesome ideas!  You should totally blow your professor’s mind and do two projects!

Today our lecture was about zombies and the Zombie Apocalypse.  I love this class.

If you do pirate/ninja, you can bring in the Flying Spaghetti Monster as well.

I also have a few places where I can sneak in the Zombie Apocalypse and the possibility of velociraptor attacks, at least in passing.

You should totally do ninja v. pirate.

Another vote for B. And a request to see the finished result, because that would be awesome.

The problem with the Pirate vs Ninja Debate is, most of the arguments for one side or the other consist of *swish* *squilch* "Eeew, what'd I step in?" "Arr!"

Or some combination thereof. ;)
Otherwise, yeah, Pirates vs Ninjas.

Alternately, you could attempt to explain furries. Hmm..nah.

ETA: BTW, You have been to Ninjaburger.com, right? You can't do this without going to the source of all things Ninja.

Well, part of the fun is analyzing why people are making these arguments.

Haven't been to Ninjaburger in a while. Thanks for the reminder!

Wow, two excellent topics. As a fan of both I don't know.

MST3K. Mostly because that needs a vote, and that can be more "researched". But the ninja/pirate is more popular and more "now" I think.

But which ever one you do, if you need to interview people I will gladly volunteer to be interviewed.

Both are good. With MST3K you can bring up things like your own jewelry (which rocks btw) as an example of the pervasiveness of the culture.

With Pirate v. Ninjas you could bring up Renn Faires/Con plot lines that have featured one or both parties. You could even "interview" a pirate at a Renn Faire and a ninja at an Anime Con...make a mockumentry and everything...

I'm with [livejournal.com profile] bluetara2020. Flip a coin, hon. That's the only way, I think.

friggin' typos.

Battlestar Galactica or however you spell it would be another good topic. I don't care for the show. I prefer 'Firefly' and 'Serenity' myself, but hey, it's all shiny.

Ninja vs pirates

It would probably be easier to do the MST3K topic, but the Pirates vs. Ninjas topic is filled with sheer awesome.

That wasn't at all helpful, was it?

*grin* Actually, that's sorta the message I got from my prof, too. (He didn't know about the ninja/pirate debate until I asked him which paper would he be more interested in reading, since I was in a complete deadlock at that point and could not decide at all. "Is that really a big thing?" he asked me, and three other people waiting to talk to him suddenly perked up and started telling him about their own experiences with it, and he was like, "THAT IS AWESOME.")

I saw a pirates vs. ninjas t-shirt on Etsy once. Sadly, it was sold out, or I would have snapped one up.

MST3K. The pirate vs. ninja thing is starting to get tiresome (although not so much as zombies, damn I'm sick of zombies).

Zombies were never really my monster (I want monsters with more character), but I gotta admit, this lecturer was fun.

I'm voting for MST3K because despite being off the air for awhile and the DVDs being prohibitively expensive, IT LIVES ON.

I vote for pirate vs ninjas, because I can't vote for gay furry pirate ninjas from space. >_>
