Today, at around noon, I was fiddling around with a conlang when I paused and pricked up my ears.

 

Wafting from somewhere in the house was the sound of a flute.

 

I stood, following the haunting, yet halting, sound of a flute down to the basement, tracking it through the shadows as though it was a will-o’-the-wisp. And there, in the back of the house, was my sister.

 

“Hey,” I said. “I didn’t know you were still doing flute!”

 

My sister turned to me, grinned brightly, and said, “I’m trying to figure out ‘Free Bird’!”

 

Remind me to check into her from time to time and make sure she hasn’t passed out yet. But if she figures out how to stay conscious through the whole song, it’ll be amazing.
