“In the name of all typecasting, does this man ever play anyone who isn’t completely psychotic?”

Today’s quote brought to you by an observation of Brad Dourif’s performance in Star Trek: Voyager.  Brad has been on my list of Creepy Crushes* ever since he killed me with a hammer in Myst III: Exile. Now I squee whenever he shows up in something, because all he has to do is be onscreen and the creep factor increases exponentially.  He was the single scariest element in Alien: Resurrection—and I include in that statement all of the aliens.

Someday he’s going to be in a lighthearted movie as the kindly candy shop owner, the kind that doesn’t have bodies hidden in the jawbreaker barrels, and the world will end.

*Not to be confused with Crushes I Would Shag Six Ways From Sunday, although every once in a while there is a crossover.

Oh GOOD.
It makes me feel good to know that I'm not the only person with a Creepy Crushes list. (And not the only person who has Brad Dourif on it, though for Lord of the Rings 'cause I think that's the only thing I've ever seen him in. But oooh delightful creepy shivers! I must get around to actually playing Myst III!)

Er. That is all.

I unleashed a bloodcurdling shriek in the theater when he appeared onscreen, because I had just been playing Exile that weekend and was a little high-strung after having been murdered. You know how it is. ;)

The Voyager episode (there are a couple of others with him I have yet to see) and Resurrection are some of his most magnificently creepy, because in both he plays the role of a sort of soulfully evil character with a lot of philosophies that boil down to an aesthetic appreciation of the Dark Side. Anybody who could say a line like "You are a beautiful, beautiful butterfly" to the horrible THING that proceeds to bite his head off (and I'm not talking about Sigourney here) and make it work wins at acting.

As for other Creepy Crushes, I am likewise glad to know I'm not the only one with a list.

...oh goodness. Okay. Must weigh nightmare potential against wanting to see him say that SO BAD. *twitchy*
Ohhh, soulful evilness.... *melts*

The movie itself is not very good. It might be better if it weren't part of my beloved Alien franchise (like many fans, I'm of the opinion that only the first two actually count), but not by much. It's a disgusting pointless splatterfest and has lots of nightmare creatures, but it does have some actors I'm fond of. Dourif and Weaver are the only two who really steal the show, though.
