I seem to recall that early in the OTHER Star Wars universe her telekinetic powers were not fine-tuned, but she could get senses off of other people when she concentrated. It never suggested she could influence people--but man, that's a missed opportunity, because it makes sense that she'd do it without knowing what she was doing. And yes, that would make her a hell of a diplomat.
