I really like the idea of Scouting (regardless of its founder's reasons for starting it)--learning new things and becoming a good citizen as well as an independent individual. But yeah, as with anything, it really depends on how people approach it. It could be awesome if people actually get involved and interested, but if they're apathetic, then it's just kinda pointless.
Also it's an extension of my impatience with kids in general who seem apathetic and determinedly dense. That might be my own failing, though.
