I picked that one up a while ago and couldn't put it down. I think you laid out perfectly some of the things I loved about it but hadn't consciously grokked.
If you haven't read it yet, Veronica Roth's "Divergent" is pretty fascinating. It has a really interesting world as well. Dystopian but with some unexpectedly breathtaking moments of joy here and there.
