BRAIN’S WTF CENTER: OMG WTF! BLOOD! THAT’S BLOOD! WHY IS THERE BLOOD COMING FROM THERE SO MUCH BLOOD NOW IS THE TIME TO PANIC.

RATIONALITY and EXPERIENTIAL MEMORY, in unison: Because you’re a girl, you dumb broad!

AMELIA: Oh … oh, right. I suppose I am.

Yeah, it’s been one of those weeks, where past experience and learning is having a little bit of a delay catching up with the current sensory input. I hate weeks like that.

*grin* Well, I get those split seconds forgetting exactly how the world works all the time, but this one I thought was particularly amusing.

*grins* I do, but it never bothers me. I'm always delighted when people actually notice the creature in the teacup, since it took me a fair bit of effort to photoshop it.

Not only is it a mouse, it's officially a dormouse. :)

That happens to me every time I become aware of the fact that I have breasts. Every single time, my brain just goes "Wait... what? What the hell is this bullshit?"

I have also in the past been known to be confused by the fact that I don't have a penis. Don't ask me how that works, I honestly don't have the slightest idea.

Sounds like someone's Past Life experience in the other Gender didn't quite get properly walled off ;)

I'd believe that. I don't know shit about past life stuff, though I think I do believe in it. But man, I don't know if there's words for what I am. My girlfriend refers to me as her boyfriend because she says I really am THAT male, aside from the physical aspect. But I'm not a tranny or anything.

I think I was a gay man in my previous life or something. XD

Gender identity can be strange. I'm kind of stuck at sort of 50/50 myself, and I've known a few other folks who have strongly identified with the opposite Gender from their physical Sex, some of whom have or are going Trans and some who just are what they are, some of whom identified as Straight even though they were visually gay, and vice versa. Fascinating subject, but at the end of the day, if you're happy with who you are, that's all that needs to be.

Agreed, and yes, it can be VERY strange. I mean... my girlfriend identifies as VERY straight... she likes boys, A LOT, she likes sex with boys... but she's only ever been in love with me... a physical female. We have sex... basically never, but we've been a couple for 8 years and we'd be married if the law allowed it where we live. How the hell do you find words for that or describe it wirhin the boundaries of "normally" accepted sexuality? A straight nymphomaniac in an 8-year relationship with an asexual mostly-male-identifying-genderqueer lesbian... that sounds like the basis for one of the most absurd novels ever written. And yet, we have a 2-year-old daughter and every intention of being together for the rest of our lives.

And I've known other people whose sexualities fall all over the spectrum in undefinable ways. My sister is straight as straight gets but still likes to make out with girls. Of course, to me, it's impossible to tell the difference between a male and female when you're snogging unless the male has facial hair, so that's not too surprising for ANYONE. But then I know straight girls who've had more than one kid who are still partly or mostly "male"... and vice versa... and...

Yeah. The language of gender identity and sexuality is so magnificently lacking in American English, it's almost laughable.

I like how Danielle Corsetto put it at one point (http://www.daniellecorsetto.com/GWS725.html), because, yeah, English really doesn't have the words for all the varieties of Human Relationships. I don't think any language does.

The more Medical you learn, the more you realize that not only gender identity but even physical sex is more a spectrum than an either/or. There's a lot more to it than X or Y.

What is it they say? Truth is stranger than fiction? Strange and wonderful indeed.
