I love long hair. I've had to cut mine a couple of times, and it's kind of cool, and I do look good with a shaved head, but I much prefer it long. Heck, even with the frizziness and the fact that my hairline has receded so far that it's actually on the back of my head, and parts back there are kind of skeezy because of it, still all for the long hair.
The growing out stage totally sucks, though. One of the super-powers that I always thought would be totally cool would just be control over my hair, able to make it long, short, straight, wavy, curly, different colours, whatever, on a whim. That would be soooo cool!
