The Desert Mermaid

My only home surgery story was using an exacto blade to get a splinter out of my little brother's foot. It had formed a sort of nasty irritated blister around it. My mother went to pieces at the idea, but I could tell it was only dead skin I'd have to cut away to get the splinter out. He didn't feel a thing and was fine. I think my mother had a worse time of it-- she had to leave the room.
