You are so totally awesome. This paper is brilliant, and explains to me why I'm pro-ninja (I never figured it out before). I'm almost tempted to write a spin-off about the psychology of pirate vs ninja personality types, as you've described them (it seems primarily an extrovert/introvert thing). (By the way, you do come across as rather pro-pirate, IMHO).
One quick question, on the sentence: Pirates are often depicted as having idiosyncratic religions or relying on unofficial “superstitions” (Gallagher) rather than more cohesive “official” religions, seen as irrational. Is something missing, or should that be "rational" rather than "irrational?"
