Discovery!
Jul. 29th, 2015 11:19 pmAt work one of the most fun exhibits is the infrared camera. It's pointed out at the crowd and there's a big screen showing what it sees,* so you can see your own heat signature on IR and, in my case, be endlessly amused by how your glasses and fishing vest make you look like a busty Walter Sobchak. We've also got warmed and cooled metal stamps in shapes like flowers and rocketships. Put your hand on one and see if the stamp shows up on IR!
Or, if you're a certain Space Place employee, you can take a stand against your globophobia because you want to show your coworkers your discovery that balloons look goddamn MAGICAL on IR cams. They're barely there. They are like faint, ethereal spirits. I guess most of the heat radiates right through them, but the effect is pretty impressive.
Yeah, a fellow coworker and I discovered this when a random patron with a balloon was checking out the camera. I considered suggesting we have balloons there all the time, except for then we'd have the problem of, y'know, balloons being there all the time. People become dicks with balloons.
But still, if you ever get a chance to try it out, do so! I'll try to get photos next time, too!
*Of course they had to flip the screen so it mirrors things, or people would get confused.
