Today at work a girl of about eight came in with her mother—and she was carrying a Brand New Kaya Doll.

I think I lost all my salesgirl professionalism while I admired the kid’s doll and told her about how I had a Molly from back when there were only five. She stared at me uncomprehendingly when I said that but was very happy that I recognized Kaya.

Anyway, YOU GUYS HOLY OPTIMUS CHRIST WE HAVE NEW LIMITED EDITION AMERICAN GIRL DOLL, courtesy my evil informants! (Photo stolen from [livejournal.com profile] bean_bunny.)

From left to right: some blond chick, some brunette chick,* and EEE SONALI THE “SOUTH ASIAN” DOLL. Way to go, AG, she’s pretty!

You guys, I want the hell out of this girl. I’m considering making her Swahili. The hair might have to be redone, but the face is right—there’s a lot of diversity in Swahili faces.

It’s been a good AG day. I realize not a whole lot of you care, but this is important shit, dudes.

*The brunette chick's movie actually looks like it wouldn't be an awful family movie--all about overcoming bullies and whatnot with self-empowerment. But the Limited Edition dolls so far are disappointingly homogeneous.

Sometimes life does not work out the way you want it to.

We all know this, and so we all sympathize when someone else’s plans go awry. Like [livejournal.com profile] medusasowl, for example. “Gosh,” we say to ourselves upon seeing that she’s in dire straits, “what dumb luck! Here is someone who had made plans in good faith and then they fell through! And we have certainly been screwed over by bureaucracies before! Why, that could be us! We sure wish we could do something to help!”

“And also,” we add to ourselves after a minute, “we really could use a tote bag with a haunting print of of Kali Maa on it.”

When that is the case, as it so often is, we go to the Blue Gorgon Cafepress store and buy ourselves some items with lovely art on them, using Christmas money that our aunt or grandmother or friend gave us, and hope it helps a little bit. And maybe we believe in karma, or maybe we hope our example means, statistically, that other people would be willing to buy art from us when it’s our turn to need to sell some art, or maybe we just really think that’s a neat tote bag. But we feel good no matter what, because there is no way you can go wrong with this. Trust me. The tote bag is that nice.
