Tonight Liz and Josh went to see 300, and I stayed home and watched Alfred Hitchcock’s Rear Window.  Both Liz and I think we won that one.

Damn, I’d forgotten how bloody good that movie is.  The bit where Jimmy Stewart’s sitting in a wheelchair with a broken leg waiting for the guy to come up the stairs is pure tension. Although I’m not so sure about the flashbulb bit. That’s sort of silly.  One of my only real problems watching a Hitchcock movie is that I like to do other things while watching movies, which is difficult to do with one of his because they have such an awesome visual style, so you have to pay attention to thoroughly enjoy it.  Sad, huh?

I’d also forgotten how sexist them old movies were. I get sick of women being able to solve cases only through ‘feminine intuition,’ and then even that gets marginalized.  But on the other hand, Grace Kelly does kick some ass climbing around a fire escape in high heels. Definitely one of Hitchcock’s better films.

Fun Trivia Fact: The songwriting pianist in this movie is Ross Bagdasarian.  You don’t recognize his name, but you might recognize his stage name, David Seville, and those of his creations and alter egos: The Chipmunks.  It is difficult for me to watch his window scenes without thinking “Me, I want a HUUUULA HOOOOP!”

Another Fun Trivia Fact: Grace Kelly spoke Swahili.
