Now is the time for all good people to come to the aid of my sister!

The year has started badly for 妹. There are a number of reasons for this—school, Mom’s new job, Dad’s new call schedule,* lack of fantastamazing! siblings around to talk to.  Now, as the crowning climax, she got to watch one of her best friends have a sledding disastrophe that landed her in intensive care.

From what I can tell, 妹 is Very Sad.

So! I am enlisting you—yes, YOU, PERSONALLY—to help me boost her mood.

I want you to go over to her blog, [profile] sunshine_shaman, and write fun comments in her latest entry (which unless she has updated it since I’ve posted this, is a silly outline of a Lifetime movie.  Your comment does not need to be relevant to this, but it’s a funny entry anyway). Write jokes! Send her cybertea! Doodle clever emoticons! Just say hi! Give her the fairy-inna-bottle pick-me-up she needs to know all will be well!

It would make me very happy, as well, if you would do this.  Thank you all in advance.

*Ten days in a row each month.  Whoever does the scheduling is a sick, twisted bastard.

I don’t know why, but the phrase ‘shot duck’ cracks me up—possibly because it has the word ‘duck’ in it.

But does anyone else think it’s strange that these people shot the duck for the purpose of eating it, then, two days later, found that it was still alive and rushed it to the hospital? Now, I would have done the same thing,* but it brings up an interesting point about when something crosses the line between ‘food’ and ‘living creature.’ Maybe they’d figured the duck had suffered enough.  Maybe they just had to give credit to its will to live. Or maybe it had to do with who found the duck—not the hunter, but his wife.

In any case, this is—yes, I am going to say it—one lucky duck.

*Well, okay, I wouldn’t have shot the duck in the first place, but if I had.

Scene: The Fortress of Terror. Amelia is watching The Daily Show. Liz is in her room, but she walks by for a moment for something.

Liz: My brain told me I must paint.

Amelia: Ah.

Liz: I was going to go to bed, but I’m painting plovers and a lighthouse instead.

Amelia: You’re welcome to come out here and watch The Daily Show while you paint.

Liz: I’d like to, but I also must listen to Evanescence.

Amelia: Oh, okay. I know how that is.

Liz: Yeah, I’m not sure why, either.
