Limerick Day
National Receptionists Day

Returning to my room after going to the bathroom to find the TV in the tail end of a car commercial and then lunging like an Olympic diver for the TiVo remote to back it up because I thought I recognized the voice of one of my One True Loves doing the voiceover and I wanted to check and see if I was right.

As far as cars are concerned, everything I know about the difference between models comes from the classic guide to distinguishing vehicles from each other, Richard Scarry’s Cars and Trucks and Things that Go.* But I would choose this car over any others, just because the magnificent Maurice LaMarche has graced it with his voice—his default voice is like a Godiva French vanilla truffle turned into sound. He’s also one of the easiest voice actors for me to identify, although I’m getting pretty good at a number of others as well, except when I forget names. It’s an interesting exercise to try to identify them all, and it’s also fascinating to see how versatile they can be. And I think that the very small number of people who do like all the eighty million cartoons on TV deserve some credit for everything they do.

And some of them have awesome voices. Voices that would make you buy Hondas or squawk in recognition in the middle of, say, a PSP commercial.  Dammit, why can’t I get normal crushes on elves like everybody else?

I’d blame the synesthesia, but my list of Top Ten Weirdass Crushes** doesn’t bear this theory out. Though it may explain a lot about the voice actor interest.
